Elements 17: Chlorine is the twenty-seventh album in this series of music on the Elements, a very large work in progress consisting of electronically/digitally created architectural music compositions by Oscar van Dillen.
The cover art in the Elements series consists of color inverted pencil drawings made by the composer.
A word of warning: after careful listening, the world around you may not sound the same any longer.
The work on this album was created, composed, recorded, and produced August 2023 – January 2024. All works, cover art and booklet of this album were created by Oscar van Dillen.
Chlorine is a very common element on Earth and in its elemental form it is a yellowish gas. It occurs naturally as salt NaCl in seawater, and since all life evolved at first in the sea, it is essential in biochemical processes.
Like Fluorine, it also belongs to the Halogens, group 17, which gladly combine to salts, especially with the Alkali metals, because where the latter have one superfluous electron, the Halogens are lacking precisely one electron in their outer atomic shells.
More dangerous are the Chlorine-containing by now restricted PCB’s, as they are organic in nature but persist in the environment and form a danger for life in the future.
