Music is Sound and Silence
November 2021 Oscar van Dillen’s small book Music is Sound and Silence appeared with Donemus Publishing.
The book contains a brief biography, an artistic statement, as well as a description of selected works.
The book is illustrated and contains two additional original pencil drawings by the composer.
“My teachers over the years imparted the deep experience, knowledge, and mentality of their diverse artistic lineages to me, and I feel deeply grateful for being part of all the traditions I am indebted to. I endeavor to pass this living inner fire on to the many many students I have had the honor to teach. May it reach the far far future through them and continue to grow. I sense a deep connection with the past through this lineage of tuition, which I feel to be generically far stronger and more influential than mere genetic kinship. This kinship of mind and mentality, along with all the knowledge and experience which has been passed on, is what moves culture and what keeps civilization developing. And it may possibly be this very same thing is also that which seems to scare certain politicians, ever since Plato notoriously feared the Dorian mode.“
