Codarts project week Day 1 – Monday 5 November 2012
This year the project week at Codarts University of the Arts Rotterdam includes a worldwide composition project, including students from the global academies for Jazz music, World music and Pop music.
Working after a concept of Carlo de Wijs, coordinated by Ronald Kool, and with a working plan by Paul van Brugge called Instant composing, the team of composition teachers with Oscar van Dillen, René Uijlenhoet and Tjeerd van Zanen, along with creative producing teachers Thomas Bank and Theo Janssen coached the students the first day.
The students were organized in three bands, with each its own concept and composition:
- global ensemble
- heavy ensemble
- weird ensemble
Starting from texts, the bands developed and recorded a complete instant composition in one day
- composition concept for the music with post-it papers
- concrete modular building blocks of the piece with musicians
- recording the modules and layers of the intended final piece and production
- a post-produced final mix of the complete piece
In my photos, I tried to capture the vibrantly creative atmosphere and the energy or synergy of this grand collaboration. These photographs are released under CC-BY-NC-ND 3.0.
