In the 9'30” 35mm color animation film Forecast the music was conceived and composed as the actual story-teller to the storyboard before the actual visuals were created by animation movie expert Adriaan Lokman.

Red and blue clouds engage in a conflict which ends in a Manicheic cease-fire, by complete separation, losing color, receding in black, white and gray. This abstract story was agreed upon in 2003, but it took over one year to finish this elaborate process. In creating the music, I simulated the score time and again for feedback to the cineast, gradually developing the concept for the accompanying soundscape as we went along, which wasn't realized until after the recording of the original music.

The project has several versions for performance and screening. To the silent version the music can be performed live, the music and soundscape are also on the cinema version. Finally, the music was composed to also be an autonomous piece for concerts.

Forecast won two awards so far, both in former Yugoslavia: at the Animated Film Festival Belgrade in 2005 and at the Zagreb Animafest in 2008. The film and the music were also nominated for the Gouden Kalf in 2006.

The score and soundscape of Forecast were created by Oscar van Dillen, both commissioned by the Netherlands Fund for the Creation of Music.
