Full Moon in Perigee, a short film by Oscar van Dillen

Full Moon in Perigee
a film by
Oscar van Dillen 2011

One shot movie of the Full Moon in Perigee, the closest point of its orbit around the Earth, rising in Rotterdam on 19 March 2011. At this point the moon is seen 14% larger than usual.

Filmed with 54x zoom, the color changes are those my Canon camera makes to adjust to the changing light. A deliberate diagonal composition, with a rooftop vent in the bottom left, and some help from a nightly flock of birds which happen to fly "through the moon" before it turns white again and disappears towards the top right.

While our starlit sister-planet travels through the view, the music accompanies its nightly take-off.

Music: GuZheng, a traditional Chinese composition titled "Moonlit night of spring river"

Shores, a short film by Oscar van Dillen

Shores
A visual fantasy inspired by the work of Isolde Venrooy.
Oscar van Dillen 2011

Venrooy's canvas "Where do I pick up my last minute" (2011) has such a unique scope of scale that it is almost impossible to capture it in a photograph, so I decided to film it. At low speed, and with enhanced contrast and image processing, to me it became something like a small voyage along what Carl Sagan used to call "The Shores of the Cosmic Ocean". Combined with the music of Stefan Micus playing the Sho (Ocean Part IV, 1986), this short film gives a personal view on the original work by Isolde Venrooy.
